Description: On 3 February 2026, the Belgian Climate Risk Assessment Center (CERAC) hosted a high‑level event titled “Understanding Climate Risks: Joining Forces for a More Resilient Europe. National and European climate risk assessments as a foundation for better risk management”. The event brought together experts, EU institutions, and national representatives to discuss how climate risk assessments (national and European) can support resilience, preparedness, and policy action.
In the first part, the event highlighted the importance of robust climate risk analysis across Europe as a foundation for effective adaptation strategies and resilience planning.
In the second part, the panel explored how climate risk and vulnerability assessments can serve as a cornerstone for building resilience and preparedness within EU policy frameworks. Representatives from all three EU institutions are invited to reflect on the importance of translating scientific evidence into actionable policies and the need of risk analysis to enable informed decision-making and prioritisation of adaptation measures.
In the final session of the event, Martin Spolc outlined the way forward for the forthcoming climate resilience package, drawing together and reflecting on the key messages from the discussions.
